VANCOUVER–As the Chinese Spectacular played its final show at Vancouver's Bell Performing Arts Centre on Monday evening, an appreciative audience clapped constantly throughout and delivered a standing ovation at the end.
Jerdeave and Narinder Saran, both teachers, were enthralled by the beauty and quality of the performances.
"It is gorgeous. It is breathtaking. You can't say anything more than that. It is beautiful, a feast for the eyes, I am telling you, so beautiful," said Narinder.
"The music is priceless. Thank you for putting this on."
Jerdeave and Narinder, who originally hail from India, said they saw a deeper spiritual meaning in some of the pieces.
"I saw it as a part of spirituality, that is, very symbolic. You have to understand what is going on, and then you will understand. Then you enjoy the dance, the composition and the whole performance. It's not [about] the materialistic world, it's mostly humanity," said Narinder.
Another couple, Pierre Gill, a retired accountant, and Lea, a registered nurse, were also delighted with the show. Lea especially the Mongolian Bowl Dance.
"The movement, the grace, the hands, and everything they do…they were incredible. I think they are top notch. I have never seen anything like that, never, and we go to many shows, we go to every show. The beauty — the beauty is something painful even. When you watch something beautiful you feel alive. It is incredible."
Pierre was equally impressed.
"I loved the show. It was just wonderful — the costumes, the music, and the visual effects of the screen and everything. I was really impressed," he said.
